Make Your Own Fusion Cuisine At Home

by Ethan Stone

When you are looking at ways to switch up your meal, one of the best things you can do is take an existing recipe and switch it up so that you have a new meal experience. Chefs have been doing this for years with fusion cuisine, where they take two disparate culinary traditions and put them together. You can also do this at home by combining the best of two traditions into something that is new and unique. Here is a recipe that you can add to the crust of your choice and make an incredible pizza that your whole family will enjoy:

Mexican Taco Pizza

  • 1 cup of warm water
  • 2 teaspoons of highly active yeast
  • 2 ½ cups of 00 flour
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of kosher salt
  • 3 teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 ounces of hot sauce
  • 12 ounces of Monterey Jack cheese
  • ½ pound of ground beef
  • 4 ounces of taco seasoning
  • ¼ cup of onion, diced
  • 2 ounces of diced green chiles
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 2 ounces of sliced olives

Prepare the dough by mixing together the water, yeast, and sugar. Allow this to stand for 15 minutes. Stir in the flour, salt, and 2 teaspoons of olive oil. Mix thoroughly until you have a good dough ball. Allow this to rest while you are cooking the taco meat.

Put the diced onion in a skillet and cook for 5 minutes over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until it is well done. While it is still over the heat, add the taco seasoning and mix until it is well combined. Take it off the heat and add in the diced green chiles, mixing thoroughly.

Roll out the pizza dough and brush the outside crust with the remainder of the olive oil. Add a light touch of salt on the outside to give the crust a little more flavor.

On the pizza crust, add a layer of hot sauce, then top with Monterey Jack cheese (you can order some through a cheese delivery company). Add the hamburger mixture and put it in the oven.  Cook it for 10 minutes at 300 degrees, or until the cheese is all melted. Pull it out and add chopped tomato and sliced olives.

This is a great way to start experimenting. Add additional toppings as you desire and customize the pizza to your individual tastes. This will give you a great tasting, unique meal every time you try it.
